WorkScreen awarded in Inaugural Hearing Technology Innovator Awards
International Recognition for WorkScreen
WorkScreen was awarded in the first Hearing Technology Innovator Awards™ at the annual Academy of Doctors of Audiology meeting, AuDacity 2020 in October – arguably the globe’s foremost event for hearing care professionals.
Created to recognise “technological innovation and achievement in the hearing industry”, the 2020 HHTI competition was the first of its kind and has been created in response to WorkScreen and systems like it that are bringing rapid advances to patient care, screening and diagnosis through the use of new technology.
During the competition, 15,000 votes were cast - and while WorkScreen did not win – our Director, Tom Parker says
“Winning would have been mind-blowing, but as one of only 2 companies representing innovations from the UK, we are more than pleased our pioneering approach to making hearing tests at work easier and more accessible than ever has been recognised
"In fact, perhaps the judges are ahead of the game, since although our technology is US-ready, we are not yet active in the US and we are actively seeking the right international partners.
"All in all, this is a great endorsement of our approach to making vital hearing testing simple and accessible for staff in companies of any size.”
When entering the HHTI awards, the WorkScreen team was undecided which group to enter – equipment or telehealth? In fact, WorkScreen is more than a next-generation audiometer – our service includes a qualified human in the testing loop.
For organisations or healthcare providers with suitably trained staff, WorkScreen therefore provides another pair of hands to collect vital health data - anywhere, at any time of day.
For organisations without staff with the relevant accreditation, we provide a complete telehealth/ teleaudiometry solution that flexes to the needs of businesses of any size.
In the era of COVID, this means that - with WorkScreen - high quality, no-contact hearing tests are a reality and that testing can continue, despite workplace restrictions.
In the end, WorkScreen was submitted into the equipment category, reflecting the importance of the WorkScreen handset as the focal point of surveillance audiometry. By entering as an equipment solution WorkScreen also sought to distinguish correctly calibrated hearing care systems like WorkSceen from other approaches – e.g. uncalibrated apps – which cannot be relied on or used for Hearing Surveillance (Surveillance Audiometry) in the UK for Occupational Health & Safety.
Recognised by International Peers
The HHTI awards were awarded on the basis of votes from our peers around the globe and included multinational companies like (winners in the hearing aid category) Starkey. The overall winner was then selected from category winners, based on:
Innovation– Technology that represents novel thinking in addressing habilitation of acquired hearing loss, its treatment and delivery,
Effectiveness– Technological advances that best address limitations of previous generations of technology,
Efficiency– Advances that best close the distance between hearing care and the end-user,
Utility– Innovation that promotes greater ease of use by the end-user and/or practitioner.
Kevin Liebe, HHTM President and CEO has gone on record as saying
“We’re excited to see companies from across the globe showcase their latest technologies in our awards program. Entrants in this year’s program hail from some of the most innovative companies in the industry”
Showcasing New Technology
And in a year when so many conferences and trade shows have been cancelled, it has been harder than ever to demonstrate the simplicity and benefits of WorkScreen. So to be recognised by our peers has been a great endorsement of the work we are doing and of the value of hearing health in the workplace.
A special thanks from the WorkScreen team to everyone who voted for us.
